2010-05-19 Nissen Light Arrows Remain Compliant
Under Chapter 8, O10.10.4, regarding the requirement to tilt mobile lane closure signs (TSRGD Diagram 7403) at approx. 5 degrees has confused some in the industry as the Nissen Light Arrows are not necessarily mounted at 5 degree angle from the road surface.
After consultation with the Highways Agency concerning this matter, Nissen can confirm its Light Arrows (Vertical Lift and VSA versions) remain Chapter 8 Compliant and they do not need to be modified or tilted by 5 degrees.
The Highways Agency has confirmed that “ the requirement was included to highlight the risk of dazzling drivers from direct reflection from the sign; however, we acknowledge that variations in loading of the vehicle the sign is attached to mean that the angle may vary considerably. This does not mean that the sign does not comply with Chapter 8. Please note that this requirement does not apply to signs (mainly light arrow signs) which have specific signs authorisation unless this is specified in the authorisation”. |
